Israeli Ministry to finance illegal settlement project

TEL AVIV,(WAFA) – The Israeli Ministry for Development of the Negev and Galilee has financed an auditorium project in the settlement of Kiryat Arba, near Hebron in the West Bank, according to Haaretz on Monday.

The newspaper said the Ministry has contributed 1.5 million NIS ($417,000) to finish the construction of the auditorium which is scheduled to be opened next week.

Senior Israeli officials are expected to attend the opening of the auditorium hosted by Kiryat Arba Mayor and Likud Member, Malachi Levinger.

The total cost of the auditorium amounts to 12 million NIS ($3.3 million), which was mainly funded by the Israeli government, the Housing Ministry, the Ministry of Culture and Sports and other contributions.

Various Israeli ministries have funded settlement projects in the West Bank: an illegal act that opposes international law which prohibits government funding of settlement projects in occupied territories.

The Ministry of Development of the Negev and Galilee, which was founded in 2005 and first headed by Shimon Peres, is responsible for both Negev and Galilee authorities at the south and north of Israel, respectively.
